General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (GDAR) established in 1991 is connected to the Ministry

of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) of Turkey and has 48 research institutes all over the country working on

‘sustainable farming systems’ research topics. GDAR employs approximately 2,100 qualified permanent researchers

in these institutes. The institutes are eligible to receive benefit funds for their research activities. MAF has

responsibility for agricultural research and has 84 years experience in funding and coordinating research and

development projects in the field of agriculture. MAF coordinates and implements the agricultural R&D activities

through GDAR which is a Funding Organisation and the headquarters of the National Agricultural Research System

and responsible for determining national research strategy, setting up research priorities and allocating available

financial resources to programs and assisting the Ministry in developing agricultural policies.
